FAQs from Prospective Students

Considering college or going back to school is a big decision. You probably have a lot of questions – ranging from classes and schedules to costs and financial aid. Here we answer many of the most common questions we hear from prospective students just like you.

Types of Student Enrollment

Dutchess Community College offers many types of enrollment to fit your interests and goals.

Matriculated Student

Matriculated students are those who have applied to college, been accepted and have declared a major. Matriculated students may attend classes full- or part-time and are eligible to apply for financial aid.

Non-Matriculated Student

Non-matriculated students have not yet been accepted for admission to the college, have not declared a major, or have been suspended from a program because of failure to maintain good academic standing. Courses taken by a non-matriculated student may later count toward a degree if the program has not changed.

Undecided or Part-Time Student

Most undecided or part-time students begin simply by registering for one course that sounds interesting. Many people are unsure about which degree program to follow when they begin college. It’s alright to be undecided – in fact, it can be a good thing. This allows you to explore different areas and find your passion.

Academic Advising at ACT Center

The Academic, Career & Transfer Center offers a community of support for incoming students. You can meet one-on-one with an advisor online or in-person to discuss your interests, educational and career goals, and coursework for the upcoming semester.

To ensure you have the greatest chance for academic success at DCC, you may be asked to take a basic skills placement test. The results help academic coaches recommend specific coursework for your upcoming semester.

MORE ABOUT PLACEMENT TESTING

Payment due dates vary depending on the semester and the date you register. Tuition bills are posted to your myDCC portal after registering, which outlines your payment schedule and amount due. You will receive an email letting you know that your e-bill is available. Financial aid and other monetary awards will be deducted from balances due.
