Teaching Learning Center

TLC faculty hold regular office hours to answer questions about the TLC, help faculty plan and implement course improvements, and provide educational information on a range of key topics, including: 

• Developing DEISJ assignments and activities
• Utilizing the College's learning management system (Brightspace)
• Best practices in online teaching
• Pedagogical approaches and teaching methods

A hub for professional development, the TLC is also a place for DCC faculty and staff to exchange ideas, cheer each other on and collaborate on cross-departmental initiatives.

• Learning Communities
  Learning Communities meet about once a month and engage in discussions and projects centered on a particular interest area – such as OER, Teaching with Technology and Inclusive Pedagogy. 
• Educator of the Month
  One of the ways the TLC fosters a supportive community for faculty and staff is through recognition. Selected based on faculty and staff nominations, the Educator or the Month is highlighted in the TLC monthly newsletter.
• Peer Networking and Support
  The TLC provides multiple opportunities throughout the year for faculty and staff to gather, formally and informally. Events such as “Get Over the Hump” offer motivation during challenging times of the semester – like final exams. Book and topic discussions allow for connection and reflection among peers. 

The TLC team has developed subject guides (aka LibGuides) to centralize information and resources. The guides are updated continuously, incorporating feedback and suggestions from DCC faculty and staff.
