No. While taking the 24-credit program is an option, some homeschool students may not want to pursue the HSE diploma. If you live in Dutchess or Putnam counties and enroll in our "early admit" program, you can take advantage of the reduced tuition rates, but not if you're taking the 24-credit program.

Most colleges and universities accept homeschooled students, but they have different policies as to how your homeschool curriculum is evaluated. At DCC, we prefer to advise each homeschooled student individually.

We’ll evaluate your academic standing through the ATB (Ability to Benefit) placement test, and equally important, we’ll help you explore your career interests and enroll in courses best suited for your future.

Students must be at least 16 or have completed their sophomore year, whichever comes first. They also need to pass the ATB (Ability to Benefit) placement test. 

While some DCC courses are offered in area high schools, the courses are generally offered at DCC’s Poughkeepsie campus and at DCC @ Fishkill. Some are available through online asynchronous and synchronous classes.

In addition, homeschooled students are encouraged to sign up for any college course that fits their schedule, as long as they have passed the ATB (Ability to Benefit) placement test or fulfilled any course specific prerequisites.

After you apply, you will be assigned an advisor. Your advisor can recommend classes that will help you make progress toward your intended college major and/or career. This may reduce the overall cost of your education and time required for a college degree.

Many students who participate in the Early Admit program also earn an associate degree along the way!

 If you're not sure of your future plans, no worries! You can take classes that can be used in most degrees at most colleges (e.g., Public Speaking, Arts, and more) or you can take a class like CLP 101 Career and Life Planning. 

Yes. You can register for any science courses from our list of approved courses.

Some classes are available online. However, many science classes have in-person labs. Please check our list of classes before you register.

Sure! Even though the discount ends (for Dutchess or Putnam county residents enrolled through our "early admit" program), you'll be able to apply for financial aid, once you apply to the college as a degree-seeking student (i.e. after graduating high school). Then you can easily continue the connections you might have made with faculty, friends, student clubs and other involvements.

You may even be eligible for scholarships for homeschooled students applying to get their college degrees.

All colleges and universities have their own enrollment and admission processes, but earning college credit from a community college—along with good academic standing and a strong application essay—can be advantageous.

You must be admitted into our early admit program in order to get the tuition discount. You also have to be from Putnam or Dutchess Counties.

Yes! Please see our list of transfer (articulation) agreements we currently have with other area colleges. Transfering to other SUNY schools is a nearly seamless process. 

DCC offers students free tutoring if you need help with your classes. If you need accommodations, please contact the Office of Accommodative Services.
