When a course is closed, if a seat in a section opens, either from students dropping or the capacity being increased, the first student on the Waitlist is offered the seat. When a seat opens a notification email is sent immediately to your DCC email account notifying you that you may register for the Waitlisted course within a specific time frame. 

To register, you must login to your myDCC Account, Go to Self-Service Banner and select the Student Tab and then Registration.

You must register before the expiration time noted in your notification email.

It is your responsibility to know your registration status and to take advantage of the offer of an available seat within the time allotted.  It is important to check your DCC email daily.  If you don’t register by the expiration date/time you will be purged from the Waitlist and the seat will be offered to the next student on the Waitlist. (Please note this is an automatic process, so if you miss the deadline you will have to put yourself back on the Waitlist, if there is room, in your desired section)

By clicking on a course title in Class Search, sections with a Waitlist available will show the information as follows:
      “WL CAP “column = how many students are allowed to Waitlist the section
      “WL ACT” column = how many students have Waitlisted the section
      “WL REM” column = how many students are still able to Waitlist the section>


When you try to register for a closed section via Self-Service Banner, you may have the option to add yourself to the Waitlist.  You will receive a Registration Add Error stating “Closed-X on Waitlist”, you may select Waitlist from the drop down menu under Action.  If there is no space available on the waitlist for that section, you will not have the option to “Waitlist” and the Registration Add Error will indicate “Closed-Waitlist Full.”  If the error message states “Open-Reserved for Waitlist”, the section was closed, but someone has dropped it.  Only students on the waitlist will be allowed to register for the course.

You will only see this if a closed course has the Waitlist option available.

For the spring and fall semesters, only Degree-Seeking (Matriculated) students has be on the Waitlist. The Waitlist is open to both Degree-Seeking (Matriculated) and Non-Degree-Seeking (Non-Matriculated) students for both the winter and summer semesters.

No.  You will only be offered a seat if another student drops the course.  The only way to guarantee a seat for a course is to register for an open section.

No.  You can Waitlist yourself for multiple courses, but NOT for multiple sections of the same course.

Yes, but only for different courses.  You cannot be on multiple Waitlists for different sections of the same course.

Dutchess Community College allows a maximum of 5 students to be on a Waitlist.

No, you may only Waitlist for individual sections via a CRN.

Yes, with a few exceptions such as Nursing Courses.

If the course has a lecture with only one choice of lab you must put yourself on the waitlist for both the lecture and the lab.  ***When there is an option of more than one lab section to choose from you can only put yourself on the waitlist for the lecture.  If a seat opens in the lecture you must register for whatever lab has an open seat, which may result in having to make adjustments to your schedule ***

No, you will not be automatically registered.  Once you are notified via your DCC Email that your Waitlisted course is now open you must log into your myDCC account, go to Banner Self-Service and officially change your status from Waitlisted to Registered.  If you are not eligible to register online you can come in to the Registrar’s Office at the Main campus or DCC South and register in-person.  Do not respond to the Waitlist notification email for registration and asked to be registered for the course.

When you add yourself to a Waitlist, it is your responsibility to check your DCC email on a daily basis.  If you lose your spot on a Waitlist, or intentionally drop your spot, you can get back on that waitlist, but keep in mind you will then be lower priority on the queue. 

If a seat opens up in a full course that has students on a Waitlist, the section will remain closed as that seat is reserved for the person on the Waitlist.  If that student does not take action within the allotted time the seat will go to the next person on the Waitlist (if applicable).  If there are no students on the Waitlist the course will open, allowing non-Waitlisted students to enroll.

Go to Self-Service Banner and drop the Waitlisted course the same way you would drop a course you are registered for.  You can also come in person to the Registrar’s Office at the Main campus or DCC South to remove yourself from the Waitlist.

All registration holds and restrictions are checked prior to allowing a student to join a Waitlist, and again upon registering.  The only restriction which is not checked is time conflicts with the understanding that if there is a time conflict in your schedule you may need to make changes in order to register for the Waitlisted course, so be mindful of your schedule when choosing a course to Waitlist.

Many times seats do become available in courses that are closed.  The best thing you can do is check your DCC email on a daily basis.  If it gets very close to the start of the semester it may be in your best interest to try to register for another section of the course you need that still has seats open or register for a different course you may need.

No, you may not attend classes that you are Waitlisted for.  You may only attend classes that you are officially registered for.

If you are no longer interested in a class for which you are on a Waitlist, you should drop yourself from the Waitlist.  This will free your inbox from unwanted emails and is a courtesy to other students on the Waitlist.

If you are deleted for non-payment, you will lose all registered and Waitlisted courses.  Seats opened during the process will be filled with students already on the Waitlist.  You will need to register again or add yourself to a Waitlist if the course is closed.

If you are on a Waitlist at the time of a scheduled delete process, you will lose your place on the Waitlist as well because it is assumed you will not be attending Dutchess Community College.

If a student has a hold on their account, the hold will need to be cleared before any registration transactions can take place.

No.  You will only be charged tuition and fees if you actually register for the class.

No, waitlisted courses do not count for any hours attempted, enrolled, or earned UNTIL you officially register for the course.

If you are on the Waitlist the most important thing to remember is check your DCC email often and make sure if you still want the course to register for it before your time limit expires.
