Dr. D. David Conklin Distinguished Lecture Series

Named in honor of former DCC President Dr. D. David Conklin, the series will welcome prominent speakers to campus.

This lecture series was established to recognize DCC’s fourth president, who retired in 2014. The event is free and open to the public and is made possible by individual contributions to the Dutchess Community College Foundation and Key Sponsors TD Bank and Llelanie Orcutt.

Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and its Legacy

  • Join us for an enlightening evening with Dr. Heather Ann Thompson, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Professor of History at the University of Michigan. Dr. Thompson, known for her acclaimed book Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and its Legacy, will delve into the historic Attica Prison Uprising and its enduring impact. With expertise in policing, mass incarceration, and the criminal justice system, Dr. Thompson brings a wealth of knowledge from her work, including Whose Detroit? Politics, Labor, and Race in a Modern American City. Her insights extend beyond academia; she is a respected advisor in film and television, co-director of the Carceral State Project, and a recent Guggenheim Fellow. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a leading voice in the field and gain a deeper understanding of these critical issues.
