Become a Student Tutor

If you’re a DCC student who has passed English 102 with a grade of “B” or higher, you have the opportunity to become a paid student tutor at the Writing Center. To do so, students must enroll in English 218.

English 218 is a course designed for capable student writers who wish to improve their writing skills in advanced composition and learn approaches to tutoring to assist fellow DCC students who have writing concerns. In this course, students will study different approaches to composition and the various types of writing in the disciplines. Students who have successfully completed the first five weeks of the course may be selected to begin their paid tutoring position at the Writing Center (minimum 2 hours per week). The Writing Center and English 218 provides a unique opportunity for DCC students, as they can receive both college credit and an hourly wage for their participation in the course. After completion of English 218, matriculated DCC students can continue working at the Writing Center for the remainder of their DCC academic career.

If you have any questions about becoming a student tutor or the English 218 course, please contact the Writing Center's Acting Director, Dana Gavin: dana.gavin@sunydutchess.edu.
