Dr. Peter Grant Jordan recognized for advancing the cause of young people in the community

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — FEB 5, 2024 — Dutchess Community College President Dr. Peter Jordan received a Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen Leadership Award on Feb. 3 at The Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls.

The Tuskegee Airmen Annual Tuition Assistance Dinner, held every year during Black History Month, honors the legacy of the historic Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American military aviators in the United States. In addition to raising funds to support educational opportunities for aspiring young aviators and students, it’s an occasion to honor one or more community leaders or organizations who have advanced the cause of young people in our area.

President of the Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee, Inc. Duane H. Ware stated, “Dr. Jordan’s life of leadership and service embodies the values, excellence and perseverance we share with our students. Thank you and congratulations, Dr. Jordan.”

DCC Board of Trustees Chairman Michael Dupree said, “Dutchess Community College shares the vision of the Tuskegee Airmen – both the courage they displayed as one of the most decorated groups to fly in the Army Air Corps during World War II and their current commitment to providing scholarships for deserving students, placing them on a path to productive and fulfilling lives. We are proud to see an exceptional leader and innovator – our President Peter Jordan – recognized by such an organization.”

DCC President Dr. Jordan said, “This award symbolizes the courage and strength of purpose embodied by the Tuskegee Airmen, traits shared by the dedicated faculty and staff who inspire and support our students. It means a great deal, both to myself and the College I serve, to be recognized for our work.”
