Band to give two concerts and also hold workshops for DCC music students

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — FEB. 12, 2024 — Dutchess Community College will host the United States Marine Corps (USMC) 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band on Feb. 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. on the College’s main campus.

The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band was formed for service in 1941 when the Wing itself was commissioned in response to the United States’ entry into World War II. For eight decades, the band has distinguished itself as a musical ambassador of the Marine Corps by performing at over 300 events annually. The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band performs at both military and civilian ceremonies, formal concerts, community celebrations, parades, festivals and public relations tours.

DCC Instructor of Music John Howell said, “The Performing Arts program at Dutchess is thrilled to host the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band for an exciting weekend of concerts and student workshops. We are sincerely grateful for their commitment to music education. They are graciously offering two nights of concerts, so we hope everyone in the campus community and the Mid-Hudson Valley will come hear them perform!”

DCC Performing, Visual Arts & Communications Department Chair and Associate Professor of Speech and Theatre Dr. Thomas Costello said, “It’s an honor to host the USMC band for what is sure to be an educational and enriching experience for our students and members of the community. The USMC band has a long and impressive history of high-caliber performance and community engagement, and we are excited to be part of it.”

On both evenings, there will be a brass quintet performance from 7:30 to 7:50 p.m. followed by a brass band performance from 7:50 to 8:50 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre, Dutchess Hall. A meet and greet will be held in the Ritz Lounge, Dutchess Hall, from 8:50 to 9:30 p.m.
