February 10, 2020 – In an effort to encourage girls to explore career opportunities in historically male-dominated
fields, Dutchess Community College will host its 24th Annual “Math and Science Matter
… Especially for Young Women” program on Saturday, March 21. The program runs from
8:30 a.m. to noon and is open to girls in grades 4-8. Registration is just $10.
The program offers hands-on workshops in science, technology, engineering and math
developed by DCC faculty and is designed to engage girls in activities that highlight
opportunities in those fields.
There are almost 20 workshops in all, including Using Satellites to Study Earth, Cloud
Creation, Adventures in Biotechnology, Groundwater Detectives, In Search of Fossils
and more. Students will select three workshops on a first-come, first-served basis
during online registration. Participating faculty come from the DCC Departments of
Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Physical Sciences, Allied Health and Biological
Sciences, Behavioral Sciences and others.
Check-in will take place between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. in the Drumlin Hall cafeteria.
Pre-registration is required. Complete workshop descriptions and the online registration
form are available here. For more information, contact Susan Conrad at (845) 431-8534 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
