Dutchess Community College and GLOBALFOUNDRIES Launch New Education Partnership

May 27, 2021 -- Employees at GLOBALFOUNDRIES (GF), the world’s leading specialty foundry, will soon be able to further their education at Dutchess Community College thanks to a new education partnership.

The program, which was launched in May, will allow GF employees the opportunity to pursue undergraduate or certificate programs at DCC through the company’s tuition reimbursement program. GF is particularly interested in tapping DCC’s strengths in programs such as electrical technology, engineering science, computer information systems and computer science.

“Our partnership with DCC allows GF to further our talent pipeline. Not only is it a great opportunity for our employees to enhance their education and careers, but it also is another example of how GF is partnering with community organizations,” said Neil Peruffo, vice president and general manager of GF Fab 10.

For DCC, partnering with GF offers a range of opportunities, including creating a pipeline of new students to the College. More importantly for Ellen Gambino, DCC’s acting president, it brings experienced professionals to the classroom, thereby broadening the learning experience for current students.

“We are very excited about the partnership,” said Gambino. “It is the first-of-its-kind with GF and for the most part, formalizes much of what we are already doing. GF is an extremely engaged partner and we share a similar goal: to ensure our students are ‘workforce ready.’ By partnering with GF, we can help ensure students are learning the latest skills needed in the workplace and increase job placement rates for our graduates. And on the other side, GF will most assuredly benefit from a well-prepared talent pool.”

GF’s longstanding relationship with DCC includes offering a range of internship opportunities, job-shadowing, field trips,  classroom visits and speaking engagements. GF is also a regular participant at DCC job fairs and other recruitment activities. As part of the new partnership, a representative from GF will serve on DCC’s Electrical Technology Advisory Board.

According to Peruffo, GF’s relationship with DCC has been particularly productive. “We currently have more than 100 DCC graduates on our team from as far back as the Class of 1975, several of whom hold management positions.”

“Dutchess Community College is proud to help GF employees expand their knowledge and gain skills that can be readily applied to their careers,” said Gambino. “As the leader in preparing the region’s workforce, we are constantly looking for new ways to provide educational opportunities to traditional and non-traditional students, and this new partnership is a great fit.“
