DCC to Show Film About the History of Forced Labor in the U.S.

September 9, 2019 – The 2012 PBS documentary “Slavery by Another Name” will be screened on Sept. 17 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on the Dutchess Community College main campus in Poughkeepsie.

The film explores the systems of forced labor that developed after the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in 1865, and recounts the history of American “neoslavery” as it continued into the 1940s. Following the film, a panel discussion with history professors Shalon Hallager, Dr. Weldon McWilliams and Dr. Laura Murphy will take place.

The free community event is being held to mark Constitution Day. For more information contact Murphy at (845) 431-8521.
