Best-Selling Author to Lecture About Armenian Genocide

April 17, 2019 – New York Times bestselling author Peter Balakian will give a presentation at Dutchess Community College about how the Armenian Genocide, the first such massacre in modern times, paved the way for genocides that followed. The lecture, to be held April 25 at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall, is made possible by the Greenspan Trust-Handel Foundation Endowed Chair in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

Balakian is the author of “The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America’s Response” as well as “Black Dog of Fate,” a memoir that recounts his childhood in the suburbs of the 1950s and ’60s and the discovery of his family’s fate during the Turkish government’s extermination of more than one million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

The lecture, which is a free community event offered through the Dutchess Community College Foundation, will be facilitated by Dr. Werner Steger, DCC history professor.
