DCC to Host "Building an Architect" Program, Dec. 1

Nov. 23, 2021--If you've ever thought about a career in architecture and design, be sure to stop by the Architecture Information Night on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at DCC@ Fishkill, located at 461 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.

The event, jointly sponsored by Dutchess Community College and the American Institute of Architecture Hudson Valley Chapter, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees will hear from local, regional and national professionals, current students and recent graduates as they reveal what makes architecture a challenging but satisfying and exciting field of study. Students with a love of design as well as an eye for detail are encouraged to attend.

Focusing on how design and creating a safe and functional building is only part of the job, the program will showcase how architects need to be economical and environmentally friendly as they fulfill their client's needs.

Participants will hear from:

- A local architect who will discuss a great residential project.

- A current architecture student regarding the architecture school experience.

- A recent architecture school graduate about life in the field after college.

- A representative from the National Architectural Accrediting Board about college searches, portfolios and scholarships.

- Representatives who will talk about high school programs that offer Architecture Construction Engineering (ACE) Mentorships

The program will also highlight the broad range of available college architecture programs – from those that focus on the design aspect to those that concentrate on technology and computers or construction.

Participants will also learn about the many college pathway options, including two-year associate degree programs, four-year bachelor of science degrees, five-year bachelor of architecture degrees, and master's degrees.
