Bernard Handel Community Leadership Award

The Foundation is currently accepting nominations for the Bernard Handel Community Leadership Award: Supporting the Spirit of a Strong Community. The award is co-sponsored by the Dutchess Community College Foundation and The Poughkeepsie Journal.

The Bernard Handel Community Leadership Award actively supports members of our local community who give freely of their time to improve the lives of Dutchess County residents.

A $1,000 scholarship is given to a Dutchess Community College student in the award recipient's name.

The Award Presentation will be held at the Annual Dutchess Community College Foundation Gala on March  27, 2010

HOW TO NOMINATE AN INDIVIDUAL:

Please follow the criteria guidelines listed below as you fill out the nominating form. You may include additional pages of supporting documents pertaining to your nominee (i.e. resume, awards, accomplishments, etc…).

THE PROCESS:
The Bernard Handel Community Service Award Selection Committee will screen all nominations and contact each of the nominees for any additional information they may wish to provide in support of their nomination. After all information is gathered and reviewed the selection committee will choose the 2010 Bernard Handel Community Leadership Award recipient.

CRITERIA:
1. Nominees will be persons with at least ten years of community involvement in two or more non-sectarian, not-for-profit organizations. Paid employees of a not-for-profit will not qualify for volunteer service with the organization they work for. However, individuals employed by a not-for-profit organization could qualify for the award through voluntary service with other not-for-profit agencies.

2. The nominee will be required to have served in a leadership role, such as chair, vice-chair, or treasurer, of at least two not-for-profit organizations and have a recognized record of successful achievement in improving the development, organization, finances or reputation of the not-for profit organizations.

3. Nominations will be reviewed and decided upon by the awards selection committee representing the DCC Foundation, Dutchess Community College, the Poughkeepsie Journal, a representative of the Handel Foundation/Handel family, and other individuals as deemed appropriate.
