Early Admissions/Bridge Program

Challenge yourself with college classes while you're still in high school.

Take DCC Classes On Campus or Online

There's no need to wait until you graduate — you can start attending classes and earning credits at Dutchess Community College during your junior or senior year of high school.

DCC has three great options for early admissions, so you can decide how to learn. These programs are great for homeschool students too!

Choose Your Path

Part-Time Early Admission

This is the program for you if you want to take fewer than 12 college credit hours a semester during your junior and/or senior year. You earn all the requirements for high school graduation AND credits toward your college degree.

While there's no minimum GPA required to participate, we may ask you to take a math or English placement test to assign you to the best course level. You'll also need permission signatures from your high school counselor and a parent/guardian.

The Full-Time Early Admission/Bridge Program

As a Bridge student, you'll attend DCC as a full-time student instead of completing your senior year at your high school. All your courses will apply toward your high school graduation, as well as your college degree.

There are several requirements for the Bridge program. Here's how we'll assess your application:

  • We'll review your high school transcript. Your average should be at least 85.
  • We'll verify you're ready for college-level English classes based on your transcript. We may ask you to take a placement test.
  • We'll confirm with your high school counselor that they're recommending you for the program, and that everything besides your senior-year requirements have been met.
  • If you're a homeschool student, we require a Superintendent's letter to show that your college courses will be applied to your high school graduation.

And before we accept you into the Bridge program, you'll meet one-on-one with a DCC admissions counselor, either in person or online. It's the best way to show us that you have the maturity to succeed on a college campus setting.

The NYS 24 Credit Hour Program

If you’re a homeschool student, you can use the courses you take at DCC to apply for the New York State High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma. This document proves that you satisfactorily completed 24 credits toward a degree or certificate.

Those credits must include:

  • English: 6 credits
  • Math: 3 credits
  • Natural Science: 3 credits
  • Social Science: 3 credits
  • Humanities: 3 credits

The remaining six credits must be in courses that meet college degree program requirements.
