Free one-on-one sessions help adults plan for a fresh start this fall

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — MAY 7, 2025 — Dutchess Community College is launching a new initiative called Project Advance to help adults take the next step in their education or career — whether they’re starting fresh, returning to college or rethinking their goals.

Beginning May 20, Project Advance offers free, one-on-one coaching sessions tailored to the needs of adult learners. Designed for flexibility, sessions are available both online during evening hours and in person at DCC’s Fishkill location through July.

“Dutchess Community College is proud to support the region’s adult learners with clear, flexible pathways to career growth,” said Associate Vice President for Enrollment and Student Success Brian Sondey. “Whether someone is looking to upskill, finish a degree or pursue a new direction, our faculty and staff are ready to meet them where they are and help them move forward.”

Participants receive individualized guidance on choosing or changing a major, planning a schedule, navigating the admissions process and connecting with valuable resources — including career services, credit for prior learning, academic support, childcare and health services. The program is especially well-suited for those looking to transition into high-demand careers, complete an unfinished degree or leverage life and work experience to build a new future.

Project Advance goes beyond traditional advising by helping students build a long-term plan for personal and professional success.
