Talk to focus on two questions: Why the Jews? and Why was no one willing to stop the killing?

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — MAR. 27, 2023 — Professor Emeritus of History and Holocaust Studies at Northwestern University, Dr. Peter Hayes, will give a presentation on findings from his extensive research on the Holocaust. The lecture, to be held April 13 at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall, is made possible by the Handel Family Foundation-Greenspan Trust Endowed Chair in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

Hayes is former chair of the Academic Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the author or editor of thirteen books, including “Why? Explaining the Holocaust” and “How Was It Possible? A Holocaust Reader.” He was recently featured in the Ken Burns/PBS production, “The United States and the Holocaust.” 

The lecture, which is a free community event offered through the Dutchess County Community College Foundation, will be facilitated by DCC Professor of History Dr. Werner Steger.
