Academic Dishonesty

  1. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    1. Cheating on examinations

    2. Plagiarism, i.e. the use of the words or ideas of others, whether borrowed, purchased or otherwise obtained, without crediting the source.

    3. Willingly collaborating with others in any of the above actions which result(s) in work being submitted which is not the student's own.

    4. Stealing examinations, falsifying academic records and other such offenses.

    5. Submitting work previously presented in another course without permission of instructor.

    6. Unauthorized duplication of computer software.

  2. If based on substantial evidence an instructor deems that a student is guilty of academic dishonesty, the instructor may initiate disciplinary action.

    1. The instructor may require that the student repeat the assignment or the examination.

    2. The instructor may give the student a failing grade for the assignment or the examination.

    3. The instructor may give the student a failing grade for the course.

  3. The student may appeal the decision of the instructor, in writing, to the instructor's department head.

    1. If a student appeals the decision, the department head will attempt to resolve the matter equitably.

    2. If the matter cannot be resolved by the department head, the student may appeal the decision of the instructor to the Dean of Academic Affairs.

  4. The Dean of Academic Affairs shall give the student an opportunity to be heard at a time and place to be designated by the Dean of Academic Affairs.

    1. The student shall be granted the opportunity to provide witnesses when appearing before the Dean of Academic Affairs, or the Dean's designee.

    2. The decision of the Dean of Academic Affairs is final in cases of academic dishonesty.
