If you are graduating from DCC in May 2012 and continuing studies at a four-year college, you may apply for Graduate Scholarships. These awards are sent directly to the school to which you are transferring, to help defray your tuition and fees.

Criteria for each scholarship follows.

GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS TRANSFERRING TO OTHER COLLEGES

Alumni Association Graduate Scholarship – Three awards of $500 each
The DCC Alumni Association has generously funded scholarships for three graduating students who have demonstrated educational excellence.

American Association of University Women Scholarship – Two awards, $600 and $500
As part of its goal to advance the continuing education of women, the Poughkeepsie branch of AAUW awards these scholarships to DCC non-traditional female students in any discipline transferring to a four-year college.

The Milton Chazen Scholarship – $500
This scholarship was established by Richard H. Chazen, P.E., in memory of his father Milton Chazen, P.E., L.S. The Chazen Companies was started by Richard's father and mother in 1947. Milton was an engineer and entrepreneur. The scholarship is awarded to an engineering student in anticipation that he or she will carry on the tradition and determination of Milton Chazen into the field of engineering. The student will attend a four-year college or university as a full-time student majoring in engineering or a related field.

James and Betty Hall Founding President's Scholarship – $2,500
This scholarship was established in 2003 by June S. Pierson, professor emeritus, on the occasion of her retirement after 40 years of teaching at Dutchess. Professor Pierson created the scholarship to recognize and honor the outstanding integrity, commitment, and strong intelligent leadership of the founding president of DCC, James F. Hall. The annual award will be given to a graduating student who has maintained a GPA of at least 3.2.

MPCS Scholarship for Prospective Teachers of Mathematics – $1,000
This scholarship was established by the Mathematics, Physical and Computer Sciences Department faculty to encourage more students to enter a career they value and love. The award is given to a DCC graduate who is receiving a degree from one of these programs: LAM, EDM, or EDC/Math. This scholarship is awarded through faculty nomination. NYSUT Retiree Council #13 (Hudson Valley) Scholarship – $500
The NYSUT Retiree Council #13 Scholarship was established this year to recognize a Hudson Valley student who has completed the requirements for an associate's degree. It is awarded to a graduating student who has been accepted into a four-year college, leading to a degree enabling the student to become a K-12 teacher within New York state. The recipient must have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA.

Robert B. Sayegh Memorial Scholarship – $500
Established by former faculty member Gail Sayegh in memory of her husband, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating student demonstrating excellence in the computer information systems program.

Maximillian Schneider Memorial Scholarship – $1,500
Poughkeepsie resident Dudley Schneider established this scholarship in memory of his father. It is awarded to a graduating student who plans to continue the study of architecture.

Richard Steffen Engineering Alumni Scholarship – $1,000
This scholarship was established by DCC engineering alumni to honor Professor Steffen's leadership as head of the Engineering, Architecture and Computer Technologies Department at DCC and to commemorate his retirement after more than 35 years of service. It is awarded to a student graduating with a degree in engineering or engineering technology who is transferring as a full-time student to a four-year engineering or engineering technology program. The award will be based on merit, need, faculty recommendations and activities outside of the classroom.

Stop & Shop Supermarket Scholarship – $2,500
DCC students in either the retailing or business administration programs can qualify for this scholarship, which rewards academic excellence in those two curriculums. Students must have at least a 3.8 GPA.

Marty Triola Math Scholarship – $1,500
In commemoration of his retirement as a faculty member of the Mathematics Department, Professor Triola established this annual scholarship. It is awarded to a graduating student who has taken elementary statistics and has achieved a GPA of at least 3.75.

Allyn J. Washington Scholarship – $1,500
Mr. Washington was an original faculty member at DCC and is the author of several popular mathematics textbooks. He established this scholarship for a graduate who will continue to study mathematics at a four-year college. This scholarship is awarded through faculty nomination. Mildred I. Washington Memorial Graduate Scholarship – $1,000
Allyn J. Washington established this scholarship in memory of his wife. It is awarded to a graduating student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, who plans to transfer to a four-year college and major in teaching.
