Graduate Scholarships

Students who are graduating from Dutchess Community College in either May or August of 2008 and who are transferring to another college or university for the Fall 2008 Semester are eligible to apply for the scholarships listed below.


American Association of University Women Scholarship

Two awards of $500
As part of its goal to advance the continuing education of women, the Poughkeepsie branch of AAUW awards these scholarships to DCC non-traditional female students in any discipline transferring to an approved AAUW college.


Dutchess Community College Alumni Association Graduate Scholarship

Three awards of $500
The DCC Alumni Association has generously funded a scholarship for three graduating students who have demonstrated educational excellence.


James and Betty Hall Founding President's Scholarship

One award of $3,000

This scholarship was established in 2003 by June S. Pierson, professor emeritus, on the occasion of her retirement after 40 years of teaching at Dutchess. Professor Pierson created the scholarship to recognize and honor the outstanding integrity, commitment, and strong intelligent leadership of the founding president of DCC, James F. Hall. The annual award will be given to a graduating student who has maintained a CPA of at least 3.20 and who is transferring to another educational institution.


MPCS Scholarship for Prospective Teachers of Mathematics

One award of $1,000

This scholarship was established by the department of Mathematics, Physical, and Computer Sciences to encourage more students to enter a career we value and love. The award is given annually to a DCC graduate who is receiving a degree from one of these programs: LAM, EDM, or EDC/Math. Preference is given to a student who plans to teach mathematics.


Mid-Hudson Engineers Association Scholarship

One award of $1,000
This graduate scholarship was established by the Mid-Hudson Engineers Association to be awarded to a graduating student majoring in the engineering sciences. The student must be academically motivated and transferring to a  four-year school to study civil engineering or a related engineering field.


NYSUT Retiree Council #13 (Hudson Valley)Scholarship
One award of $500

The NYSUT Retiree Council #13 Scholarship was established this year to recognize a Hudson Valley student who has completed the requirements for the associate’s degree. It is awarded to a graduating student who has been accepted into a four-year college, leading to a degree enabling the student to become a K-12 teacher within New York State. The recipient must have maintained at least a 3.00 CPA.


Robert B. Sayegh Memorial Scholarship

One award of $500
Established by former faculty member, Gail Sayegh, in memory of her husband, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating student demonstrating excellence in the computer information systems program.


Maximillian Schneider Memorial Scholarship

One award of $1,200
Poughkeepsie resident Dudley Schneider established this scholarship in memory of his father. It is awarded to a graduating student who plans to continue his or her study of architecture.


Richard Steffen Engineering Alumni Scholarship

One award of $1,000
This scholarship was established by DCC engineering alumni to honor Professor Steffen's leadership as head of the Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Technologies Department at DCC and to commemorate his retirement after more than 35 years of service. It will be awarded to a student graduating with a degree in engineering or engineering technology who is transferring as a full-time matriculated student to a four-year engineering or engineering technology program. The award will be based on merit, need, faculty recommendations, and activities outside of the classroom.


Marty Triola Math Scholarship

One award of $1,500
In commemoration of his retirement as a faculty member of the Mathematics Department, Professor Triola established this annual scholarship. It is awarded to a graduating student who has taken Elementary Statistics and has achieved the highest overall GPA.


Allyn J. Washington Scholarship

One award of $1,500
Mr. Washington was an original faculty member at DCC and is the author of several popular mathematics textbooks. He established this scholarship for a graduate who will continue to study Mathematics at a four-year college or university.


Mildred I. Washington Memorial Graduate Scholarship

One award of $1,000

Allyn J. Washington established this scholarship in memory of his wife. It is awarded to a graduating student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, who plans to transfer to a four-year school or university and major in teaching.
