African Wildlife Paintings Featured in Gallery Exhibit

April 1, 2014 – The next exhibit to be featured in Dutchess Community College’s Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery will be “An Artist’s Safari,” a series of African wildlife paintings by Eva van Rijn. The pieces will be on display April 7- May 16.

The artist will give a talk, also open to the public, on April 22 at 12:30 p.m. in Washington Hall, room 138.

The artist traveled to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Tanzania gathering photos and sketches of birds and animals as the basis of her paintings. Her work has been exhibited nationally in the Museum of Northern Arizona and the National Arts Club in New York, among other places, and has been featured in the magazines Wildlife Art, Western Art Collector and Fine Arts Connoisseur.

The gallery is in the Allyn J. Washington Center for Science and Art. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are advised to park in Lot D.
