Former Poet Laureate Pinsky to Partner with DCC for Favorite Poem Project

April 8, 2013 – On April 18, selected Dutchess County residents will read their favorite poems in front of an audience that will include former United States Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky. The readings will take place at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on DCC’s main campus.

The event is part of the Favorite Poem Project, which was created by Pinsky after he was named Poet Laureate in 1997. The first installment was a national initiative, with more than 18,000 Americans volunteering to read their favorite poem in front of an audience. Since then, hundreds of cities and towns across the country have organized events and invited their citizens to read their favorite poems aloud, along with a narrative explaining what their chosen poem means to them.

In addition to being the only Poet Laureate named to three terms, Pinsky is the author of 19 books, most of which feature his own poetry. He is a professor at Boston University and poetry editor at online magazine Slate.

The event is free and open to the public.
