May Concerts to Offer Mix of Show Tunes, Jazz, Classical Music

April 27, 2012 – Musical selections varying from classical favorites to contemporary and popular works will be performed throughout May during four concerts scheduled at Dutchess Community College.

All shows are free and will be held in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on DCC’s Poughkeepsie campus, except for the May 11 show, which will take place in the Ritz Lounge in Dutchess Hall.

 

  • May 1, 7 p.m. – Spring Instrumental Concert. DCC Guitar Consort: Music by Bach, Grieg, Ralph Towner and Greg Lake, directed by Helen Avakian. Jazz Ensemble: Music by Stevie Wonder, Pat Metheny, Benny Golsen and Dizzy Gillespie, directed by Dr. Christopher Brellochs.
  • May 3, 12:30 p.m. – Spring Choral Concert: Featuring the DCC Chorus and Chamber Choir, conducted by Elizabeth Gerbi, along with student ensembles A Choired Taste, The Brown-Eyed Girls and The Pough-Tones. Selections will include music from classical, contemporary and barbershop styles.
  • May 4, 7:30 p.m. – Mid-Hudson Community Orchestra: Performances of classical favorites directed by Marissa Kaczynski.
  • May 11, 7 p.m. – Recital: Students of voice and various instruments will perform selections in a wide variety of styles, including classical, jazz and musical theater.
