March 4, 2010 – Author Catherine Clinton will visit Dutchess Community College for a lecture about Mary Todd Lincoln’s life and contributions. Clinton’s book, “Mrs. Lincoln: A Life,” draws on important new research to illuminate the first lady’s background and contributions to the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln.
The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for March 9 at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on DCC’s Poughkeepsie campus.
In addition to her book about Mary Lincoln, Clinton wrote “Harriet Tubman: The Road to Freedom,” which was named one of the best nonfiction books of 2004 by The Christian Science Monitor and the Chicago Tribune. She was on the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Bicentennial Commission and holds a chair in U.S. History at Queen’s University in Belfast.
The lecture is part of DCC’s Women’s History Month celebration.
