September 29, 2015 – Thomas E. LeGrand of Rhinebeck, chair of the Dutchess Community College Board of Trustees, has received the Donald M. Mawhinney, Jr. Trustee Leadership Award from the New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT). He accepted the award in Cooperstown Sept. 18.
The honor is given to a trustee who has demonstrated a significant commitment to the community college mission through exceptional leadership, inspired vision and outstanding professional contributions in support of their campus.
LeGrand has served on the DCC Board of Trustees for almost 20 years – the last decade as chair. He has helped lead the College through several major initiatives during his tenure, such as the building of the Washington Center for Science and Art, the planning and construction of the College’s first residence hall and the search process for a new college president.
In addition to his work as DCC Board chair, LeGrand currently serves on the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Authority and the Dutchess County Water and Wastewater Authority. He is a past board chair of the Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation and is past president of the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce. He also has served on boards for the Rhinebeck Performing Arts Center and the Brookmeade Nursing Home. He is a past recipient of the Poughkeepsie Journal Business Person of the Year Award and earned the 2008 Marist College President’s Award for Promoting Higher Education in Dutchess County.
The New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT) is a voluntary nonprofit consortium of community college trustees established to strengthen the effectiveness of New York community college trustees as an active force in the development and implementation of public policy impacting community colleges.
