September 28, 2010 –Dutchess Community College set an enrollment record this fall, with more than 10,000 students taking courses totaling more than 100,000 credit hours. Full-time students outnumber part-time students this semester, continuing a trend and setting a record for both full-time and overall enrollment.
The record numbers illustrate that more and more students and families know the value of a DCC education. According to the latest figures, 39% of Dutchess County students who elect to continue their education after high school attend DCC, and of those who graduate from the College, 90% either transfer to a four-year school or find work right away. DCC offers the lowest tuition in the state – just $1,450 per semester for full-time students.
DCC’s commitment to providing an enriching, engaging college experience is reflected in the results of a recent SUNY student-opinion survey, in which more than 600 DCC students participated. The College was ranked first or second on 63% of all questions in the medium-sized community college group consisting of nine other schools.
DCC scored first in areas including: education quality, classroom and library facilities, study areas, availability of instructors outside of class, college social activities and cultural programs, fine and performing arts studios, athletic facilities, condition of buildings and grounds, job search assistance and career planning services.
In addition, the survey showed that 71% of Dutchess Community College students stated they intend to transfer to another school to continue their education compared to 55% of students at the other nine community colleges in the SUNY system. Also, more than 80% of DCC students stated they would “definitely” or “probably” choose DCC again if they could start over compared to approximately 75% of students the other colleges in the group.
