April 18, 2011 – Families looking for a fun, free weekend event that has something to offer every age group are invited to Dutchess Community Day. Sponsored by the Student Government Association at Dutchess Community College, the event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 in the Washington Quad next to the College’s Cottage Road entrance.
Free and open to everyone, the day will feature entertainment by K104 radio personalities from 11-1 and DCC Radio karaoke from 1-4 in addition to music, prizes, games, food vendors and an interactive simulator that will illustrate the dangers of texting while driving. Children can enjoy a bouncy house, special game booths, animal balloons and face painting. Adults can make connections with local non-profit agencies and businesses and check out a student art sale and an art exhibit in DCC’s Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery. The art sale is a benefit for the Middle Main Revitalization initiative.
“What we’ve learned at Dutchess Community College has helped us become critical thinkers and responsible adults,” said DCC Student Government Association Vice President Jonathan Hill, one of the event’s organizers. “We thought hosting a fun event that appeals to our students, as well as the general public, would be a great way to give something back and demonstrate what DCC has given us.”
For more information about Dutchess Community Day, call the DCC Office of Student Activities at (845) 431-8050 . Free parking is available in DCC Lot D. The rain date for the event is May 1.
