Art Advocacy Organization Founder's Paintings to be Featured in DCC Gallery

February 5, 2013 – The next exhibit at the Dutchess Community College Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery will feature a selection of paintings by Sadee Brathwaite.

The exhibit, titled “Cosmic Daughters Sacred Grandmothers,” runs from Feb. 11 through
March 8 with an opening reception on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

Brathwaite’s oil-on-canvas pieces feature figures designed to connect to the universal female, while some paintings focus on elder women that are mentors and educators.

The gallery is in the Allyn J. Washington Center for Science and Art. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to being an artist, Brathwaite is the founder of La Leona Arts, an art advocacy organization that hosts exhibitions, networking events and provides consulting.

The exhibit and reception are part of DCC’s annual celebration of Black History Month. For more information about the exhibit, call Gallery Director Margaret Craig at (845) 431-8617.
