Financial Planner New Treasurer of DCC Foundation
Certified Financial Planner Paul Ellis of American Express Financial Advisors in Fishkill has been selected as the new treasurer of the Dutchess Community College Foundation. Ellis has served on the DCC Foundation Board of Directors for two years, and on the Foundation Finance Committee for three years. Ellis is a senior advisor in the American Express Platinum financial Services Practice. A financial planner with American Express since 1989, he specializes in socially responsible investing. Ellis said the focus of socially responsible investing has shifted dramatically over the years, evolving from “negative screening” to emphasize investment in companies which are sound corporate citizens. Depending on a client’s philosophy, that may reflect a commitment to the environment or other social or societal issues, or the company’s structure of corporate governance. Socially responsible investing allows investors to make a difference in corporate behavior and have leverage as shareholders. Ellis, who also has a law degree, became interested in socially responsible investing through his early work in fundraising for not-for-profit organizations. In addition to his current work with the DCC Foundation, Ellis has worked with a number of other area nonprofits, including the Vanaver Caravan, an Ulster County-based dance troupe, and on the planned giving advisory team of SYDA, a meditation group in Sullivan County, and served as the president of the Leave a Legacy of Dutchess County in 2003. Leave a Legacy is a community-wide collaboration of local nonprofit organizations, estate planning professionals, and community foundations formed to encourage individuals to make gifts during their lifetime and from their estates to Mid-Hudson Valley nonprofit organizations. Other members of the DCC Foundation Board of Directors for 2004-2005 include Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian (Butch) Anderson; Sheila Appel; Ellen L. Baker; Betsy H. Brockway; Owen T. Clarke, Jr.; DCC President Dr. D. David Conklin; Daniel F. Curtin; Vincent J. DiMaso; Tansukh G. Dorawala; Susan A. Doyle; DCC Dean of Administration W.
