Student Achievements in Social Sciences to be Recognized at Awards Ceremony Release date: April 22, 2008
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Department of History, Government and Economics at Dutchess Community College will host its annual awards ceremony to honor DCC students who have achieved excellence in the social sciences. The event will be held on May 1 at 4 p.m. in Bowne Hall, Room 122 on DCC’s main campus in Poughkeepsie. This year’s recipients are Lizbeth L. Flonc of Poughkeepsie, Eriklejd Cupa of Poughkeepsie, Brittany A. Bush of Wingdale, Alexander P. Frederick of Lagrangeville, and Lauren A. Swirski of Fishkill. Flonc will receive the Eugene Sheridan Award for Excellence in Social Sciences, Cupa will be presented with the Xavier H. Verbeck Memorial Award for Excellence in the Social Sciences, and Bush, Frederick and Swirski will each receive departmental awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Social Sciences. In addition, Christina M. VanGorder of Red Hook will receive the Ann and Dan Zodikoff Memorial Scholarship in memory of the parents of Rita Alterman, an adjunct member of DCC’s History, Government and Economics department. Students participating in the National Model United Nations program also will be recognized. Founded in 1957, Dutchess Community College is a two-year community college celebrating its 50th anniversary of excellence and service to the residents of Dutchess County. It is part of the State University of New York and is one of 30 community colleges in the state system. The College offers a wide variety of associate degree programs, as well as career programs in major technical, human service and business areas. The College also offers non-credit courses through its Office of Community Services to meet the continuing education needs of civic, cultural, business and professional groups and the community at large. The main campus is at 53 Pendell Road in Poughkeepsie, while the Dutchess South extension site is in Hollowbrook Park, Building #4 at 31 Marshall Road in Wappingers Falls.
