DCC Offers Courses in Pesticide Application

Release date: February 22, 2008

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. –Dutchess Community College is offering non-credit Pesticide Applicator certification and recertification courses in March.

The 30-hour certification training course prepares students for the state examination in pesticide application required to apply pesticides commercially. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has approved the course, which teaches basic safety, handling, potential for poisoning, biology and control of pests, fundamentals of pest management, equipment use, and record keeping. Some hands-on experience is included.

Successful completion of the course allows students to take the NYDEC State Certification Exam.

The recertification classes give professional applicators the opportunity to add new categories or credit hours to their certification. The New York State DEC requires pesticide applicators to continue their education with courses such as DCC’s recertification course.

For more information about either course, including dates and times available, call DCC’s Office of Community Services at 845-431-8900.
