DCC Business Department Plaza to be Dedicated in Honor of First Department Head Release date: April 23, 2008
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Business Department Plaza outside of Dutchess Community College’s Taconic Hall will be dedicated in honor of Anthony Krzywicki, the first head of DCC’s Business Department. The dedication will take place May 8 at 1 p.m. on DCC’s main campus in Poughkeepsie. Krzywicki, who came to DCC in 1958 to run the business department and develop the college bookstore, was one of the College’s founding faculty members. In 1959 he became the first head of the department. He is credited with developing the first business programs at DCC, as well as teaching most of the early courses in general business, retailing, and secretarial science. He retired in 1986. Krzywicki has a master’s degree in Business Education from Columbia University, and was formerly a professor at Bucknell University where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Founded in 1957, Dutchess Community College is a two-year community college celebrating its 50th anniversary of excellence and service to the residents of Dutchess County. It is part of the State University of New York and is one of 30 community colleges in the state system. The College offers a wide variety of associate degree programs, as well as career programs in major technical, human service and business areas. The College also offers non-credit courses through its Office of Community Services to meet the continuing education needs of civic, cultural, business and professional groups and the community at large. The main campus is at 53 Pendell Road in Poughkeepsie, while the Dutchess South extension site is in Hollowbrook Park, Building #4 at 31 Marshall Road in Wappingers Falls. -30-
