DCC Partners with Empire State Water Well Drillers on Training Programs

Dutchess Community College Office of Community Services is partnering with The Empire State Water Well Drillers to offer formal training programs designed to assist candidates prepare for New York pump installer certification. Persons interested in New York State certification for water well pump installation can enroll in this first cooperative training initiative, which will take place at DCC in Poughkeepsie on Thursday, April 26.

Representatives of the Empire State Water Well Drillers Association will conduct the Water Systems training course. The course includes a study guide and pre-test preparation and covers safety, planning system needs, proper water system component sizing, housekeeping, preventive maintenance, well disinfection, and other pump-specific information. There will be two tests: (1) the Water Systems General Pump Exam and (2) the Less Than 100 GPM Exam. Both are developed by and offered through the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) and will be administered following the instruction. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation currently recognizes these exams for New York pump installer certification.

The one-day session at DCC on April 26 will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the training prep course followed by an optional exam period. Applicants must register prior to Friday, April 13 to insure receipt of the exams. The course fee is $125, and each of the two Water Systems exams has a separate $75 fee. Prospective students must pre-register with the Dutchess Community College Office of Community Services. At that time, individuals must state which tests they are planning to take. Payment for exams is separate from the training course and may be made either by check made out to NGWA or credit card. To register, contact (845) 431-8910 by the April 13 deadline.
