Digital work will be well-represented, too, with classes in vector design and illustration (using Adobe Illustrator), designing with digital imagery (Adobe Photoshop), and color digital photography.

Susan Poulakis, Chair of DCC’s Commercial Art program, noted that the College currently offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Commercial Art. The program was originally meant for students who wanted to go directly into the workforce afterAmanda Schmadel 2-D Design with David Hebb two years of college. But the goals of students have changed over the years, said Poulakis. Now, most DCC art majors plan to transfer to four-year institutions. The art program is evolving to meet those needs, and is in the approval stages for a new program in Fine and Applied Arts.

The DCC art program attracts a wide range of people, from traditional-age college students to those in the workforce who want to hone their skills and develop a portfolio. Many, Poulakis said, want to have a good art foundation experience close to home.
