DCC Educators Celebrate Accomplished Students with DUE Awards

Release Date April 30, 2007

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Dutchess United Educators (DUE), the professional staff union of Dutchess Community College, celebrates the accomplishments of 27 outstanding students at the DUE Awards for Academic Excellence on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 in the James and Betty Hall Theater in Dutchess Hall at the main campus in Poughkeepsie.

The DUE Awards were established in 1985 so that members of the professional staff could recognize students for their academic achievements, artistic accomplishments, and/or service to the college community. DUE recognizes students with individual awards; with awards from DCC’s academic departments; and with special awards which honor DCC educators. To qualify for a DUE Award, students must have earned a minimum of 40 credits at DCC, have a grade point average of 3.2 or above, and be nominated by a member of the faculty or professional staff, or by an academic department. Every award recipient receives a framed, limited edition print designed by calligrapher Franz Heigemeir.

The members of DUE will also recognize Professor Emeritus Toni Emery with a special DUE award. This year’s keynote address will be delivered by Professor Stephanie Roberg-Lopez, a teacher of anthropology and behavioral sciences at DCC and a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. A reception in the Francis U. Ritz Lounge will follow immediately after the ceremony. For information, contact Professor Richard Reitano at (845) 431-8514.
