Release date: March 18, 2008

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, one of the most famous radio DJs of all time, will come to Dutchess Community College on Sunday, April 6 to emcee a ‘50s-style Sock Hop, organized to thank the Dutchess County community for supporting the College during its first 50 years.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 3-6 p.m. in the Falcon Hall gym on DCC’s main campus on Pendell Road in Poughkeepsie.

Morrow will play popular music from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and attendees are encouraged to bring their dancing shoes. There will be contests and prizes, as well as food available for purchase. Morrow will also autograph copies of his latest book, Doo Wop: The Music, the Times, the Era.

Morrow adopted his “Cousin Brucie” moniker in 1959 while working at WINS in New York City. After a move to Miami, Morrow returned to New York to work for WABC, where he broadcast for 13 years. During that time, he hosted the famous Palisades Park rock concerts, and introduced The Beatles during the group’s show at Shea Stadium in August of 1965. Morrow left the airwaves following a switch to WNBC in New York, but returned for six years in 1987 on WCBS, New York. He currently hosts “Rockin’ With the Cuz” and “Cousin Brucie’s Saturday Night Party” on Sirius Satellite Radio. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1988.
