DCC Day Care Receives Accreditation From the National Association for the Education Release date: February 13, 2008
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Dutchess Community College Day Care Center became one of the first programs in the country to earn accreditation under the reinvented accreditation system from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The accreditation is valid through Jan. 31, 2013. The College’s Day Care Center was judged in 10 areas: Curriculum, Relationships, Teaching, Assessment of Child Progress, Health, Teachers, Families, Community Relationships, Physical Environment, and Leadership and Management. In eight of the 10 areas, DCC’s program met 100% of the criteria laid out by the NAEYC and received excellent scores in the categories of Families and Curriculum. Specifically, the College was recognized for its child development goals, appropriate and effective teaching approaches, assessment approaches, health and nutrition promotion, reciprocal community relationships, a physical environment that fosters development and growth, and more. DCC has offered toddler and preschool programs for children of DCC students, faculty, and staff since 1976. In 2003, the newly renovated center was named in honor of Louis Greenspan, a local businessman and philanthropist.
