Speaker from Poland to Lecture on the Holocaust Release date: March 18, 2008
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -- Dutchess Community College will host Anna Sommer, who will give a lecture titled “Stealing the Holocaust: Who Owns the Memory? Controversies over Auschwitz and Distortions of Memory” on April 10 in the James and Betty Hall Theatre at 12:30 and again at 7:30 p.m. Sommer is a lecturer and doctoral candidate in the department of Jewish Studies at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. She is a guide at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and has served as an assistant to the European Parliament in Poland and the Polish public radio station. She was a lecturer in Krakow for the Heritage Seminars of Jerusalem’s Hebrew University, and has done research at the Yad Vashem Institute in Israel and the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. The event will be presented by the DCC Greenspan Trust-Handel Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Holocaust Studies. Founded in 1957, Dutchess Community College is a two-year community college celebrating its 50th anniversary of excellence and service to the residents of Dutchess County.
