Learn About Day Care Credential Prep Course May 15

Dutchess Community College will hold an information session May 15 for those interested in a 12-credit program that will prepare early childhood caregivers to apply for a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. The two-semester program is conducted on Tuesday evenings and is geared toward those already working in the child care field. Classes begin next fall semester, with an open house for prospective students scheduled for May 15 at 6 p.m. in Taconic Hall, Room 209.

Holocaust Scholar to Speak About Key Nazi Policymakers

Renowned holocaust scholar Alan Steinweis will come to Dutchess Community College on April 17 at 7 p.m. to give a presentation called "Becoming a Professional Anti-semite: Three Biographies from Nazi Germany." The lecture will be held in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall. The lecture will be preceded by a Yom HaShaoh ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the Ritz Lounge.

Exhibit of NYC Photos, Copland Music to be Featured at DCC

The Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery at Dutchess Community College will host "The Landmarks of New York City" photo exhibit April 9 through May 18, along with a lecture and musical performance all with a New York City theme. A reception to celebrate the exhibit will be held April 19 at 5 p.m.

The event is a great way for both students and parents to see why DCC - which at $2,900/year charges the lowest tuition in the state - has earned a reputation for providing outstanding quality and value.

'Hedda Gabler' to be Staged by Performing Arts Students

The Dutchess Community College Performing Arts program will bring Henrik Ibsen's classic drama "Hedda Gabler" to the stage from April 12-15. Performances will begin at 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall on DCC's Poughkeepsie campus.

Jazz Ensemble to Play DCC

Musical group Matt Finley & Rio Jazz will visit Dutchess Community College on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. for its 25th annual concert that will include original compositions as well as classics and Brazilian jazz. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Louis Greenspan Cafeteria in Drumlin Hall on DCC's main campus. Refreshments will be served.

Bridge Program Open House Set for March 13

Dutchess Community College will hold an information night on March 13 for high school students interested in earning college credit during their junior or senior year. This Early Admissions/Bridge Program provides an opportunity for students to get a jump start in college by attending DCC either full- or part-time. Classes may be taken at the Poughkeepsie or Wappingers Falls campus.

Events to Celebrate Women's History Month

The Dutchess Community College annual celebration of Women's History Month will be held in March with Lyceum speakers, an art exhibit, a reading of works by female authors and more. The theme for the month is "Women, Politics and Change." Among the highlights will be a presentation by Salon.com senior writer Rebecca Traister about the prominent women in the 2008 presidential election and the subsequent media coverage.
