Federal and State Grants
Pell Grants
A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. (A professional degree is typically earned after earning a bachelor’s degree in a field such as medicine, law, or dentistry.) In some cases, you may receive a Pell Grant for attending a post baccalaureate teacher certification program. For many students, Pell Grants provide a foundation of financial aid to which other aid may be added.
State Grants
Educational Opportunity Grant Program (EOP):
Dutchess Community College participates in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) of SUNY. EOP is an academic and financial support program offered at SUNY campuses to provide a college education for capable students who have not had the same opportunity as other students to realize their academic potential because of limited financial resources and inadequate academic preparation. To aid these students, EOP provides tutoring, personal counseling, academic advisement, career planning services, and financial support.
Applicants desiring additional information regarding EOP should contact the EOP Office at Dutchess Community College at 845-431-8039.
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP and APTS):
The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation provides aid to both full-time and part-time students.
TAP grants are designed to assist New York State residents who are attending college full-time, with tuition costs. A student may apply by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. New York State Higher Education Services Corporation will generate an ETA (Express TAP Application) for the student to complete and return to Albany.
APTS (Aid for Part-time Study) grants are available to eligible matriculated students enrolling for three to eleven credits. Currently Dutchess Community College will fund up to 6 credits of part-time study per semester. Applicants, to qualify:
