To receive payment under New York State Tuition Assistance Programs you must maintain good academic standing. This requirement applies to all students receiving payments from either TAP or the Aid for Part-Time Study program.

Fresh Start (Academic Amnesty)
Schools can have Academic Amnesty/Renewal procedures through which a student can apply to have credits attempted and grades earned in previous semesters excluded from the calculation of the student’s grade-point average. The New York State Financial Aid program regulations make no provision for the concept of academic amnesty or academic renewal.
APTS & TAP Waivers
- If you are not eligible for APTS or TAP due to your grades you can attempt to appeal for a waiver from the Office of the Dean of Student Services due to medical or hardship circumstances that can be documented. Documentation includes letters from doctors, lawyers, counselors or other non-vested third parties. Obtain the required documentation prior to making an appointment in the Office of the Dean of Student Services. You are entitled to only one APTS/TAP waiver during your academic career.
