Meeting General Education Requirements in Math
Undecided Students
DCC students who are uncertain of what academic program of study they will pursue at a four-year college or university and are uncertain as to which senior institution they will eventually transfer, are advised to enroll in MAT 110, College Algebra (or a higher level math course). MAT 110 (or higher) will meet the General Education requirement in mathematics for the majority of four-year colleges and universities across the country. The following information includes recommended DCC courses that satisfy General Education requirements in mathematics at selected four-year colleges and universities for specific programs of study:
SUNY New Paltz MAT 109, Survey of Mathematics (or higher): Recommended for majors such as Art/Art Education, Adolescent Education (other than Math and Science), Communications, English, History, Foreign Language, Philosophy, Sociology, Theatre Arts, and Women Studies. MAT 118 Elementary Statistics: Recommended for majors such as Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and Nursing. MAT 110 College Algebra (or higher): Recommended for majors such as Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Adolescent Education (Math and Science), Geology, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. MAT 107 Math for Elementary Teachers: Recommended for Childhood Education 1-6 and Early Childhood B-2
Marist MAT 109 or higher: Recommended for majors such as Art, Communications, English, History, Fashion Design/Merchandising, Foreign Language, Adolescent Education (not Math or Science). MAT 118: Recommended for majors such as Economics, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Childhood/Special Education 1-6, and Athletic Training. MAT 110 or higher: Recommended for majors such as Accounting/Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Medical Technology.
Mount Saint Mary College MAT 109 or higher: Recommended for majors such as Art, Adolescent Education (other than math and science), English, History, Theatre Arts, Foreign Language, Human Services, Communication, Arts/Media Studies. MAT 118: Recommended for majors such as Psychology, Sociology and Nursing. MAT 107: Recommended for Childhood Education 1-6 MAT 110 or higher: Recommended for majors such as Accounting/Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry, and Adolescent Education (Math and Science)
SUNY Albany MAT 109 or higher: Recommended for majors such as Art, English, Foreign Language, and Theatre. MAT 118: Recommended for majors such as History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Rhetoric and Communication, Sociology, Criminal Justice and Social Work. MAT 110 or higher: Recommended for majors such as Accounting/Business Administration, Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
Cornell University DCC students who plan to apply to Cornell are advised to enroll in MAT 115, Pre-Calculus, or a higher-level mathematics course. MAT 221, Calculus & Analytic Geometry I (or a higher level, depending on the students intended program of study) is strongly recommended.
SUNY Binghamton MAT 109, MAT 118, MAT 110 and all courses listed in appendix A of the current DCC catalog will satisfy the SUNY-Mandated General Education requirement in mathematics at Binghamton. *Recommended DCC math courses will depend on the students intended program of study. (Contact SSB 301 for further information.) *In addition to Math courses that satisfy General Education requirements at the various four-year institutions, some academic majors will require additional math courses. |
