Meeting General Education Requirements

Completing an Associates Degree at DCC and Meeting General Education Requirements at Four-Year Institutions


SUNY New Paltz

DCC students who complete an AA or AS degree and also complete courses in all 10 Knowledge and Skills areas of the SUNY-Mandated General Education requirement are considered to have met New Paltz’s General Education requirement.

DCC students with less than 30 transfer credits will be expected to meet the SUNY-Mandated General Education requirements a well as New Paltz’s native General Education requirement.

Marist College

DCC students graduating with an AA or AS degree and an overall GPA of 2.8 in one of the *articulated DCC/Marist parallel programs are considered to have met Marist’s core/Liberal Studies requirements with the exception of **PHIL 103, World Views and Values, and the Capping course in the students major.

For students who are non-degree earners and not enrolled in one of the majors included in the DCC/Marist articulation agreement, credits will be transferred on a course-by-course basis if the grade is “C” or above and Marist has equivalent courses.

*DCC students earning associate degrees in programs included as part of the DCC/Marist articulation agreement, are guaranteed a minimum of 60 transfer credits towards the Marist degree requirement (Marist will accept a maximum of 70 transfer credits).

**The “World Views and Values (PHI 103) course requirement at Marist is met if a student completes PHI 201 and PHI 205 at DCC.

SUNY Binghamton

AA or AS degree holders from DCC who complete courses in all ten SUNY-Mandated Knowledge and Skill areas are considered to have met the General Education requirement at Binghamton. DCC students transferring to Binghamton who have not completed courses in all ten SUNY-Mandated Knowledge and Skill areas will need to take additional higher- level courses to meet the General Education requirement.

Mount Saint Mary College

The MSM core of General Studies is distributed over four academic areas and includes 39 credits. Although degree-holders from DCC are not granted a blanket waiver of these requirements, further details on how they can be met are available in SSB-301.

MSM agrees to accept *AA and AS degree-holders from DCC into the appropriate BA and BS programs with full junior status and a minimum of 60 hours of transfer credit (details available in SSB-301).

MSM agrees to accept AAS degree-holders from DCC in Accounting and Business Administration into MSM's Business Management and Administration with full-junior status and 60 hours of transfer credit.

* AA or AS degree-holders can be granted a maximum of 66 transfer credits.

SUNY Albany

A.A. or A.S. degree holders who complete courses in all ten Knowledge and Skill Areas of the SUNY-Mandated General Education requirement including PHI 203 and one of the following courses: ENG 224 or ENG 263 or BHS 209; will be considered as having met Albany's General Education requirement
