Transferring? Your Degree is the Ticket
Reasons why you should complete your Associate Degree at Dutchess Community College:
Keep More of Your Money
- Save now at DCC and postpone borrowing for the rest of your education. At $1,350 per semester, DCC currently offers the lowest tuition of any college or university in the state.
- Some four-year colleges that award scholarships to those who transfer award them only if you have the associate degree.
Increase Your Chances for Success
- The Bachelor's degree attainment rate is higher among community college transfers who complete an Associate's degree before transferring. 43% of Associate degree completers receive a Bachelors degree, compared with 17% among those who transfer without any credential. (National Center for Education statistics.)
- Although the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences at Cornell University does not require an Associate degree for admission, they do recognize its significance: "The Admissions Committee views degree holders more positively in the evaluation process." (Many four-year colleges and universities have similar policies.)
Keep Your Credits
- Credits for individual courses can go out of date; your degree does not.
- When you have an associate degree, most of your credits will transfer to four-year colleges and universities, especially when we have articulation agreements.
- You are more likely to transfer as a junior. SUNY guarantees that associate degree holders may transfer within the SUNY system.
- If you transfer with the AA or AS degree and complete courses in all ten knowledge and skill areas of the SUNY-Mandated General Education requirements, in many instances General Education requirements will be met.
Keep Your Grades Up
- Take your difficult general education subjects in a nurturing setting.
- It's easier for you to explore and change your curriculum at DCC than at a four-year college.
Something Else You Can Keep
- Your degree! Get a credential first. If unforeseen circumstances prevent or delay getting your bachelor's degree, you will always have your Associate degree from DCC to build on.
