DCC and CORNELL UNIVERSITY’S COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY Dutchess Community College has a signed articulation agreement with Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology. Graduates of DCC who have successfully completed the *prescribed courses listed in the agreement, if accepted, will enter Cornell’s College of Human Ecology with junior status. DCC students must meet current admission requirements at the College of Human Ecology in order to be included in this agreement. Most accepted students have at least a 3.3 GPA and strong interest in one of the programs in the College of Human Ecology. Human Ecology will usually accept the minimum 60 credits from an A.A. or A.S. degree towards the 120 required for a Bachelor of Science degree. DCC students should be aware that although A.A.S. degrees can provide the proper course work, A.S. and A.A. degrees generally provide a more ideal foundation. DCC courses prescribed in each of the study plans for the academic programs included in this agreement, represent the preferred foundation for a transfer student. Students are not compelled to take every class that is listed. However the closer they come, the better prepared they will be for work at Cornell, and the better their chances will be for acceptance. *Further information concerning the prescribed DCC courses for each of the following articulated programs is available in the Office of Counseling and Career Services, Dutchess Community College, 53 Pendell Road, Poughkeepsie, New York, 12601-1595; phone number: (845) 431-8043. Recommended DCC programs of study providing the best academic foundation for Human Ecology majors included in this Agreement.
**Because of the studio design sequence, the Interior Design major differs significantly from other Human Ecology majors in terms of transfer credit. It will most likely take transfer students 3 years of Cornell work to complete the Bachelors degree whether they complete an Associates degree, or not. If students complete 2 years of the Architectural Technology sequence (through ARC 203), AND provide a strong portfolio, they will be considered for entry into the junior level studio program (where 2 years of Cornell study will earn the Bachelors degree). Cornell’s I.D. faculty would like to be in direct contact with students beginning in their first semester at DCC. For further information about Cornell University’s academic programs in the School of Human Ecology, consult the current Cornell University catalog or inquire on-line at: humec_.admissions@cornell.edu.
