Each year Dutchess Community College graduates transfer to a variety of senior colleges and universities, both public and private, across the country. Students planning to transfer should matriculate, in general, in an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree program. These programs offer the student the greatest opportunity to transfer with junior status, with the expectation of completing the baccalaureate degree in an additional two years of study. Listed below are a variety of transfer agreements designed to enhance the transfer process of AA and AS degree graduates to four-year institutions.
Course Equivalencies: A list of DCC courses and their equivalent course at a specific college/university. May also indicate how the course will generically transfer (toward general education, major, or elective).
SUNY-Wide General Education Program: Applies to all state operated colleges and universities requiring Baccalaureate Degree candidates, as a condition of graduation, to complete a General Education program of no fewer than 30 credits in ten subject areas and two competencies. DCC courses certified as fulfilling particular SUNY-Mandated General Education Requirements will fulfill those requirements at any other institution in the SUNY system.
Comprehensive Articulation Agreement: Includes the articulation of specific Associate and Baccalaureate Degree programs, course equivalencies, policies for meeting General Education Requirements, and other information enhancing the transfer process.
Jointly Registered Teacher Education Programs: AS degree programs designed for optimal transfer of academic credit for students transferring to SUNY New Paltz and preparing to become certified teachers in grades B-2, 1-6, and 7-12. These programs, approved by the NYS Education Department, provide students an opportunity to complete the first two years of study at DCC and the final two years of study at SUNY New Paltz.
General Agreement: Document that stipulates criteria for transfer from DCC to a specific college/university. In most cases it addresses GPA, some course information, transfer of credit, and some privileges due the student because of the agreement. Does not address specific programs or majors, and usually does not include course equivalencies.
Associate in Applied Science Degrees: AAS degree programs are not designed for transfer, but primarily to prepare their graduates for immediate employment in specific occupations or careers. However, many graduates do transfer some or most of their credits towards advanced study at a senior college or university. For more information concerning a limited number of existing transfer agreements associated with AAS degree programs, please contact the Office of Counseling and Career Services.
