New York State is committed to providing new drivers with information that will help them drive safely. This 5-hour course provides the only opportunity for many to gain classroom exposure to defensive driving principles. Learner’s permit is required for students in this course. This program is required by NYS-DMV in order to obtain a driver’s license. Students must arrive for first class at approximately 5 p.m. for processing. Pre-registration is required, no walk-ins. DRV201 POINT AND INSURANCE REDUCTION PROGRAM
The NYS-DMV approved, 6-hour class entitles licensed drivers or permit-holders to a 10% reduction in their liability, collision, and personal injury auto insurance. All insurance companies doing business in New York State grant these reductions. The course will help refresh your driving knowledge with a review of time-tested safe driving tips and an overview of today’s vehicle and traffic laws. You may be eligible to eliminate as many as four points on your driving record. Learner’s permit is required for students in this course. Please be on time. No late arrivals will be allowed to sit for this class: no exceptions.(6 Hours)

DRV102 TRAFFIC SAFETY AND DRIVER EDUCATION
This course teaches students the proper techniques, laws, and responsibilities pertaining to driving in New York State. High School credit available through most districts. It allows a 10 - 15% reduction through most insurance companies. The program consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction, the 5-hour pre-licensing certification, and 24 hours of on-road instruction as mandated by the New York State Department of Education. Students must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid NYS permit or license by the first day of class.
All classes are mandatory. Road assignments are for 90-minute time blocks and will be assigned at the mandatory orientation. In-car sessions are assigned on a first-registered/first-served basis.
Required text: Drive Right, 11th edition, by Ronald Budig, published by Scott Foresman, is available at the DCC Bookstore.
ORIENTATION DATE: Section 90: Thursday, 7/19/12, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Dutchess South. Parents or guardians must attend Orientation with students.
Students must be available between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
