    GED, ESL Programs Offered at Beacon Community Resource Center

    A recent collaboration between Dutchess Community College and Nubian Directions II, Inc., lead agency for the Beacon Community Resource Center (formerly the Beacon Community Center) has given local residents another convenient way to access DCC’s English as a Second Language (ESL) and GED classes.

    Music School at DCC Faculty Member to Perform Oct. 29

    Pianist Jeffrey Brown, a faculty member of the Music School at DCC, will play on Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on DCC’s Poughkeepsie campus. He will perform pieces by Chopin, Bach and Beethoven. The show is open to the public, with optional donations to the MusicLink Scholarship Fund accepted at the door.

    DCC Offers Course for Tax Professionals

    The Dutchess Community College Office of Community Services and the upstate New York area of the Internal Revenue Service will present a credit-free program called the Tax Practitioners’ Institute geared toward enrolled agents, certified public accountants and tax preparation practitioners. It will be held Thursday, Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Bowne Hall, room 122 on DCC’s Poughkeepsie campus.

    Free Music Event to Feature Instrument Sampling and Concert

    The Music School at DCC will host Music Exploration Saturday on Sept. 3 from 1-3 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on the College’s Poughkeepsie campus. The free event is an opportunity for children and adults to sample instruments, audition for ensembles and enjoy a concert featuring Music School faculty members.

    Music School at DCC's Annual Sing-a-Thon/Play-a-Thon Coming July 30

    The annual Sing-a-Thon/Play-a-Thon hosted by the Music School at Dutchess Community College will be held on July 30 from 2-5 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on the main DCC campus in Poughkeepsie. The event – at which DCC students, faculty and community members perform - benefits the MusicLink Scholarship Fund, which provides free or low-cost music lessons to students who could otherwise not afford them. Attendance is free, but donations to MusicLink will be gladly accepted at the door. Additionally, the performers have requested sponsors for their efforts, with proceeds going to MusicLink.

    'Green' Careers Information Session to be Hosted by DCC

    The Dutchess Community College Office of Community Services and the Clean Energy Technology Training Consortium are teaming up to offer a free information session on careers available in green technologies, and the training needed to get jobs in the emerging field. The session will be held Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in room 122 of Bowne Hall on the main DCC campus in Poughkeepsie.
