Ali – A Tribute to The Greatest: Geoffrey Ewing’s one-man show is the transformational life story and spiritual journey of Muhammad Ali, a man who transcended the sports world to become a global legend and a champion of honor, respect and dignity.  Ewing captures Ali’s dauntless spirit, his larger-than-life personality, and his unmatched humor, charm and charisma that electrified the world.  Ewing’s performance has garnered praise from Muhammad Ali himself.  Ewing follows his show with an interactive dialogue with the audience, exploring the significance of Muhammad Ali’s life as well as the creative process for this production.  Ewing is the recipient of the prestigious OBIE award for Off-Broadway theatre, and the AUDELCO award, recognizing excellence in Black theatre.  He has performed throughout the United States and Europe, on stage and television.Admission is free. Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: Dr. Joy DeGruy Leary holds a Ph.D. in Social Work Research and is an Assistant Professor at Portland State University. The Theory of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome suggests that centuries of slavery followed by systemic racism and oppression have resulted in multigenerational adaptive behaviors, some of which have been positive and reflective of resilience, and others that are detrimental and destructive. Breaking the Cycle of Trauma: Angela Shelton is a filmmaker, writer, actress, producer, model and homemaker, and is not the only Angela Shelton, nor is she the only abused woman in America. In making her autobiographical film, Searching for Angela Shelton, she found 76 other Angela Sheltons on the Internet, 32 who would talk to her, and 16 who had been raped, beaten, or molested – herself included.  Through her Concetta Scaravaglione working on animated and interactive presentation, Angela will candidly share her own experiences as a survivor and her powerful technique for letting go of unconscious negative thought patterns. Gallery Reception: Concetta Scarvalione, 1900-1975: Co-curated by Carol Kushner, Assistant Professor of English at DCC and the artist’s great-niece, and Gallery Director Lynn Palumbo. From immigrant background to award-winning artist and eventual teacher of sculpture at Vassar College, Concetta’s life was one of determination against the social constraints on women artists of the time. With the aid of her producing partner Sophia Raab-Downs, Quinn chronicles her 30 year journey to the director’s chair as a woman of color in the entertainment industry. XM Radio Show Live On Stage: The DCC Communications and Media Arts Program COM250 class with Dana Dorrity presents Radio personalities and voice impressionists, Joe Bevilacqua and Lorie Kellogg of XM radio’s Comedy-O-Rama. The pair will be recording “Fibber McGee and Molly in The House of Wax” and “Duffy’s Tavern,” two half hour episodes for their “New Old-Time Radio Hour” which will air as a special on Laugh USA and as well as on their Comedy-O-Rama show. The shows, with material appropriate for all ages, will feature a full sound effects table and a live band on stage as well as five radio actors. Bevilacqua and Kellogg have worked in radio for many years and recently gained the rights to recreate old-time style radio shows using well-known radio characters like Jack Benny and Fibber McGee. Younger audiences will recognize many of these voices, because the radio voice actors eventually went to work creating the voices for Warner Brothers cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Droopy Dog, Rocky the Squirrel and Foghorn Leghorn. Jenny Scheinman, Jazz ViolinistJenny Scheinman Live On Stage: The DCC Communications and Media Arts Program COM250 class under the direction of Camilo Rojas presents jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman in celebration of Women’s History Month. Jenny Scheinman, violinist/composer, was voted the #1 Rising Star Violinist in the 2005, 2004 and 2003 Downbeat Critics' Polls, has performed and recorded extensively with Bill Frisell as well as Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux, Nels Cline, Vinicius Cantuaria, Marc Ribot and Myra Melford. She grew up playing folk music with her family in northern California, studied at Oberlin Conservatory, and has been performing as a jazz violinist since she was a teenager. In the last several years she has released four recordings of original music. The program will be video-taped by DCC students. Admission is free. The Publishing World and You – A Behind the Scenes Look with Michael Korda: Editor, author, and local resident Michael Korda joined the publishing firm of Simon & Schuster in 1958. He went on to become Editor-in-Chief of the company and was a major figure in the book industry for many years, publishing writers such as Ariel Durant, Ronald Reagan, Jacqueline Susan, and Harold Robbins. He is also the author of numerous books, including House People, Country Matters, and Ulysses S. Grant. Admission is free. The Future of Healthcare: Presented by Dr. Paul Krugman, Professor of Economics at Princeton University, Harry Truman tried to create a national health insurance system. Bill Clinton's health care plan failed. Where do we stand now and where are we going? Why do other advanced countries manage to spend so much less than we do, while getting better results? Why is the price of U.S. health care so high? What do we get for all that money? Krugman received his B.A. from Yale and his Ph.D. from MIT. Prior to his current position, he taught at Yale, Stanford, and MIT. He also spent a year on the staff of the Council of Economic Advisors in 1982-83. His research is mainly in the area of international trade. He also works in international finance, with a concentration in currency crises. In 1991, Krugman received the American Economic Association's John Bates Clark medal. Krugman writes extensively for nontechnical audiences and is a regular op-ed columnist for The New York Times. His latest trade book, a collection of his New York Times articles and additional writings titled The Great Unraveling: Losing Our Way in the New Century, quickly rocketed to the top of the Amazon.com bestseller list. HMatt Finley, Rio Jazzis earlier books, Peddling Prosperity and The Age of Diminished Expectations have become modern classics. Krugman is brought to campus by Dr. Seemi Ahmad, Professor of Economics at Dutchess Community College, as part of the Handel Family Faculty Endowed Chair series. Admission is free. Depression and War as the Crucible of the Postwar Consumers’ Republic: Lizbeth Cohen, Ph.D., is the Howard Mumford Jones Professor of American Studies, Department of History at Harvard University.  Dr. Cohen will explore how the prosperous postwar order built around mass consumption actually developed during the hard times of the Great Depression and World War II. The new attention that President Franklin Roosevelt and his New Deal gave to the importance of consumers and consumption paved the way for the emergence after the war Valentino Achak Dengof what Lizabeth Cohen has called the “Consumers’ Republic.” Admission is free. Valentino Achak Deng – a Sudanese Lost Boy and the subject of the new novel What is the What by Dave Eggers–Deng will discuss his experiences as a refugee in the civil war in Sudan, his view of the current situation in Sudan and Dafur, and the process of collaborating on the novel about his life. The Margaret Mead Film & Video Festival is the longest-running showcase for international documentaries in the United States, encompassing a broad spectrum of work, from indigenous community media to experimental nonfiction. The Festival is distinguished by its outstanding selection of titles, which tackle diverse and challenging subjects, representing a range of issues and perspectives, and by the forums for discussion with filmmakers and speakers. The Festival was founded by the American Museum of Natural History in 1977, in honor of pioneering anthropologist Margaret Mead on her seventy-fifth birthday and her fiftieth year at the Museum. Twelve Apostles of Nelson Mandela: a film by Thomas Allen Harris (Director / Producer) Harris’s stepfather was a friend of Nelson Mandela’s and a member of the African National Congress. He left South Africa in the 1960s and came to America to help bring attention to the atrocities in South Africa and the evils of Apartheid. After his stepfather died, Harris began work on this documentary to learn more about the man who raised him and helped to bring about democracy in South Africa. Black History Month Program.

XM Radio Show Live On Stage: The DCC Communications and Media Arts Program COM250 class with Dana Dorrity presents Radio personalities and voice impressionists, Joe Bevilacqua and Lorie Kellogg of XM radio’s Comedy-O-Rama. The pair will be recording “Fibber McGee and Molly in The House of Wax” and “Duffy’s Tavern,” two half hour episodes for their “New Old-Time Radio Hour” which will air as a special on Laugh USA and as well as on their Comedy-O-Rama show. The shows, with material appropriate for all ages, will feature a full sound effects table and a live band on stage as well as five radio actors. Bevilacqua and Kellogg have worked in radio for many years and recently gained the rights to recreate old-time style radio shows using well-known radio characters like Jack Benny and Fibber McGee. Younger audiences will recognize many of these voices, because the radio voice actors eventually went to work creating the voices for Warner Brothers cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Droopy Dog, Rocky the Squirrel and Foghorn Leghorn. Jenny Scheinman Live On Stage: The DCC Communications and Media Arts Program COM250 class under the direction of Camilo Rojas presents jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman in celebration of Women’s History Month. Jenny Scheinman, violinist/composer, was voted the #1 Rising Star Violinist in the 2005, 2004 and 2003 Downbeat Critics' Polls, has performed and recorded extensively with Bill Frisell as well as Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux, Nels Cline, Vinicius Cantuaria, Marc Ribot and Myra Melford. She grew up playing folk music with her family in northern California, studied at Oberlin Conservatory, and has been performing as a jazz violinist since she was a teenager. In the last several years she has released four recordings of original music. The program will be video-taped by DCC students. Admission is free. Sherlock Holmes or The Strange Case of Alice Faulkner: The Performing Arts Program presents the only Sherlock Holmes story that has the famous sleuth fall in love with one of the most intriguing women in all literature – the incomparable Alice Faulkner. The adaptation by master playwright William Gillette still remains controversial. Even the creator of the original Sherlock Holmes stories, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, was upset as Ms. Alice wrapped the stalwart Holmes around her little finger. In Sherlock Holmes you will get a great mystery to solve, dynamic characters like Dr. Watson, Professor Moriarty, “Lightfoot” McTague and Count Van Stalburg, plus the one and only Alice Faulkner. Dutchess Community College Day of Design: The architecture faculty, the Dutchess Community College Foundation and Catskill Art are sponsoring a Day of Design to bring together area high school students in grades 11 and 12 who are interested in architecture. This workshop will allow participants to work for one day on the design of a small architectural project in small groups paired with an architect to develop a concept board and architectural model for the project.  The program will give the students a chance to see how an architect thinks and works as well as have the opportunity to discuss the field of architecture with them. Students who do not have an architecture course in their high school will be able to experience a possible career path. Women's Soccer Team, Fall 2006, with Coach Brian PowersDCC Falcons Athletics

DCC’s sports teams, the Falcons, play under the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in Region XV, which includes colleges from Long Island to Dutchess and Ulster counties. They are part of the Mid-Hudson Conference, which includes two-year colleges in Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Rockland, and Westchester counties. Winter sports include men’s and women’s basketball, co-ed bowling and co-ed track. Spring sports include men’s baseball, women’s softball, men’s tennis, golf, and track and field. The Athletics Department, in cooperation with the Office of Community Services, also offers youth sports academies in the spring and summer. Schedules are subject to change.
