    Twenty-Seven Earn Coveted DCC Scholarship

    Twenty-seven Dutchess Community College freshmen were formally awarded the 2014 Charles E. and Mabel E. Conklin Scholarship for Academic Excellence recently, joining family members and DCC staff members for a luncheon on campus. When combined with the Conklin scholars who began at DCC last fall, 64 students currently are benefiting from the initiative.

    Two Fall Concerts to be Staged at DCC

    Two concerts will take place this fall at Dutchess Community College that are free and open to the public. Members of the DCC music faculty will perform vocal and instrumental selections Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall on the DCC Poughkeepsie campus. On Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., West Point Band members Denver Dill (trumpet) and Yalin Chi (piano) will perform, also in the James and Betty Hall Theatre. Receptions will follow both performances, and the faculty concert will be streamed live at www.livestream.com/dutchesscc.

    Student-Created Documentary Screened at International Film Festival

    "Civil Courage," a half-hour documentary film shot and produced by students in Dutchess Community College's Overseas Documentary Production class, was screened August 15 in Vancouver, WA as an official selection of the Columbia Gorge International Film Festival. It made its debut at Upstate Films in Rhinebeck last December.

    Business Person of the Year Luncheon Honors Cleaning Company President

    Dutchess Community College welcomed almost 200 guests to the 2014 Poughkeepsie Journal Business Person of the Year luncheon on June 10 to honor this year's award recipient, Joseph Lepore, president of LCS Companies.

    Foundation Golf Tournament Set for May 19

    There's still time to register for the Dutchess Community College Foundation's 25th Annual Golf Tournament and Dinner set for May 19 at the Dutchess Golf Club. The event is held annually in memory of Jack Orcutt, who was DCC's first director of student activities and a founding member of the College staff. Funds raised will go toward student scholarships at DCC.

    Foundation Gala Honors Seven, Raises Funds for Student Scholarships

    The Dutchess Community College Foundation's annual Gala - Community's Bridge to the Future - was held on March 29 at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie. The event drew approximately 400 guests to honor seven outstanding individuals and raised more than $160,000 for student scholarships.

    Foundation Gala to Honor Seven, Raise Funds for Student Scholarships

    The Dutchess Community College Foundation's annual Gala - Community's Bridge to the Future - will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 6 p.m. at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie. The event will honor seven local individuals, and raise funds for student scholarships. The Foundation awards more than $380,000 per year in scholarships to deserving DCC students.

    Author of 'FDR and the Jews' will Speak at DCC Dec. 5

    Author Richard Breitman will come to Dutchess
    Community College on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. to deliver a lecture about his newest book, "FDR and the Jews," which focuses on FDR's refusal to accept Jewish
    refugees from Europe during World War II. The
    lecture is free and open to the public, made possible through the Greenspan Trust-Handel Foundation Endowed Chair in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and
    supported by the Gillespie Forum.

    DCC Foundation Craft Fair Coming Thanksgiving Weekend

    The Dutchess Community College Foundation will
    host its 42nd Annual Craft Fair on Thanksgiving weekend, November 30 and December 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day on the DCC main campus in Poughkeepsie. This has become one of the area's most anticipated hand-made crafts events.

    Dutchess Community College benefactors Charles
    E. Conklin and Bernard Handel were inducted into the State University of New York Chancellor's Society last month at a reception in New York City.

    Gallery to Exhibit DCC Alumni Artwork

    The Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery at Dutchess Community College will host an exhibit between April 29 and May 24 featuring work created by DCC Alumni. An opening reception will be held on May 2 at 5 p.m.

    Former Poet Laureate Pinsky to Partner with DCC for Favorite Poem Project

    On April 18, selected Dutchess County residents will read their favorite poems in front of an audience that will include former United States Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky. The readings will take place at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on DCC's main campus.

    New Deal Backlash the Subject of Lecture

    New York University History Professor Dr. Kimberly Phillips-Fein will present "The Long Reaction: The Transformation of American Politics and the Backlash Against the New Deal" at Dutchess Community College on April 17 at 7 p.m. The lecture will be held in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on DCC's main campus, and is free and open to the public.
